Demo Trades are Essential
Forex trading is a decentralized market. In this type of trading dealers put out their own price feeds through proprietary trading platforms. As in all trading decisions you should try out and educate yourself thoroughly on different types of trading software before diving into real trading. You should be able to try out free demo versions of the software and practice trading using demo dollars before committing yourself. If you come across a company that won't let you have a free demo, it's best to move on to those that do.
Before you decide to trade live make sure you are 100% confident on how to place a limit order; how to set a stop; know whether you can set a limit and a stop at the time of entry; know if spreads on the platform are fixed or variable; know the lot size you can trade; can you mix and match lot sizes; and are you able to contact the dealing room directly if you lose your internet connection.
It is to your benefit to use your free demo to master the techniques used in forex trading and determine what kind of trader you are. Do you like short term momentum with high leverage or are you more comfortable with smaller trades to hold longer-term positions. The old saying practice makes perfect is extremely true here. Although no one will ever be a "perfect" trader, demo trading will be a definite asset to you in the long run.
